June Chairman's Letter

6/21/2022

Each year, about 6%-8% of eligible Scouts become Eagle Scouts. Consider the entire population of Scout-age youth in the United States, and that percentage drops to about 0.3%. By 2019 about 2,598,999 million Scouts had earned the rank of Eagle Scout dating back to 1912. The rank of Eagle Scout is the highest awarded for a Scout, because it takes years of hard work, service, and determination to achieve it. This prestigious milestone is recognized across the Country and the world. Being a recipient of this award myself, I’m truly grateful of the accomplishment I was able to achieve as a youth. I received my rank as Eagle at my Eagle Scout Court of Honor ceremony. As a Scout you stand as a witness to the many people who walked your scouting journey during your most formative years including scout leaders, parents, grandparents, teachers, instructors, friends, fellow-scouters, relatives, community leaders, clergy, etc. As a youth you don’t realize what volunteers sacrifice for your success. My ceremony was a defining moment in my life because I realized my success was not mine alone. The individual achievement I received was a combination of so many that came on my scouting journey. I knew that the balance of my life at that ceremony would define the life I would lead to honor all those who gave so much. I would spend my days as a seeker of talent, give 100% of my best, never give up on people, and stand resolute to the human capacity. I would face all challenges, obstacles, and stay resilient in the fact I could find solitude in the Scout Oath daily; “ On my honor I will do my best, to do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law; to help other people at all times; to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight”. This Oath meant a lot to me, and I have done my very best at honoring it.

I share my Eagle Scout experience because in 2021 The Republican Party of St. Croix County was presented with the Wisconsin Award from the State Party, and it reminds me a lot of the Eagle Scout Award. The Wisconsin Award is given for local party excellence. The Wisconsin Award is given to County parties that have demonstrated superior performance in every area of political activity throughout the year. Recipients of the Wisconsin Award must earn a total of more than 2500 points during a non-election year or 3000 points in an election year. In 2021, in a non-election year The Republican Party of St. Croix County received 3,730 points. Our successes came directly from all corners of the human capacity across our expansive county in St. Croix. As Chairman I believed from the onset that; “we must meet people where they are at; not where we want them to be”. As Chairman, I believed that to achieve this vision we had to show up vs tell. The list of accomplishments of the party will be displayed in the Victory Center. They will remind us that we must seek the lost, trust in God, inspire the forgotten, listen to those without political authority, give hope, encourage ideas, bet on people, be strong as lions, live in truth, seek to give voice to those who have not found theirs, and be a refuge for those leaving the Democratic Party.

The Wisconsin Award demonstrates how much we have come together to achieve big things in St. Croix. However, there is still work to be done as power will always seek its own authority over the people. No matter the successes achieved, human self-interest can blind us. We must always stand guard for those who seek to take authority over us. We must always remember that people will build human constructs that help them understand the world as they see it, or as they want it to be. As Chairman I’m proud of all those who strive to serve people and protect our county against the Democratic agenda. The Wisconsin Award symbolizes Theodore Roosevelt’s “Man in the Arena” quote (not the full quote); “It is not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles”. I still believe that; “Our journey will be your journey, our candidates’ victories will be your victories, and The Republican Party of St. Croix County will be stronger because of you”.

Congrats on your achievement as a party,

Matt Bocklund
