Testin On The Trail
Testin on the Trail
February 22 Edition

There's no other way to put it: the Republican grassroots in Wisconsin are fired up. There is incredible momentum and anger building in our party to do whatever it is going to take to retire Tony Evers in November!
Even with a very healthy primary campaign going on, Wisconsin Republicans remain united with the sole goal of taking back our state this year, and making Tony Evers a one-term Governor! We traveled across multiple of our most-populous counties this week, while also traveling to and hearing from people in the Northwoods—closer to my neck of the woods—about just how badly the Evers Administration has hurt our communities. I'm ready to get to work, and I hope you are too! We must take back our state this November, and send a strong message that the Badger State isn't for sale to big tech or teachers' unions. I hope to see you on the Trail this upcoming week as we join the Republican Women and Young Republicans of Waukesha on Wednesday as well as Langlade, Sheboygan, Dane, Lafayette, Waushara, and Monroe Counties for their caucuses or Lincoln Day Dinners! |

Stafsholt Absentee Ballot Processing Legislation Passes Senate

Stafsholt Absentee Ballot Processing Legislation Passes Senate
Madison, WI – Today, Senate Bill 214, authored by Sen. Rob Stafsholt (R - New Richmond), relating to
processing absentee ballots passed the State Senate. The bill will now need to be passed by the
Assembly.
“After hearing concerns from voters across my district following the 2020 election, it became clear
public confidence with regard to the integrity and transparency of our elections was being questioned
and that’s why I drafted this bill. The people of Wisconsin deserve to have confidence that our elections
are fair, accurate, and transparent.
Voting by absentee ballot has increased dramatically over the last few years. According to the Wisconsin
Elections Commission, about 1.9 million people in Wisconsin voted by absentee in the 2020 General
Election. That is more than double the number of absentee ballots cast in 2016 General Election. The
large number of absentee ballots can be overwhelming for some communities. As we experienced last
November, canvassing thousands of ballots on Election Day delays election results into the next day.
“The current process of canvassing the large number of absentee ballots no longer works. Election
results in Milwaukee and Dane County cannot continue to be released in the middle of night while most
people are sleeping. Requiring large central-count municipalities to process their absentee ballots under
the secure process of this bill will prevent large late night ballot dumps. This will be another step in
restoring confidence in the outcome of our elections.”
Current law requires all absentee ballots to be processed and counted on Election Day. Senate Bill 214
would make processing absentee ballots on the day before an election mandatory for communities that
use central count canvassing and absentee central count canvassing locations. Communities that do not
use a central count location will have the option of processing ballots the day before an election.
The language in the bill does not allow ballots to be tabulated until after the polls close on Election Day.
In addition, it guarantees the public has access to the location where absentee ballots are canvassed,
provides safeguards and security measures for storing ballots, requires multiple progress reports to be
posted publicly, and includes criminal penalties for anyone who intentionally provides results before the
polls close on Election Day.
“Since being elected into the Senate, I have authored and supported multiple pieces of legislation
focusing on election integrity and reform. We looked into the 2020 election and passed legislation that
placed restrictions on ballot harvesting, included early voting security procedures, and fixed abuses of
the indefinitely confined voter status. Unfortunately, Governor Evers has already vetoed those bills and
others that could have addressed some of the audits findings. However, I am still hopeful the Governor
will have the opportunity to sign this bill into law.”
Parents Defending Education
We believe our children’s education should be based on scholarship and facts, and should nurture their development into the happy, resilient, free-thinking, educated citizens every democracy needs. Our classrooms should include rigorous instruction in history, civics, literature, math, the sciences, and the ideas and values that enrich our country.
Yet in recent years activists have targeted public, private, and charter schools across the country with a campaign to impose toxic new curriculums and to force our kids into divisive identity groups based on race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. Many schools have already embraced this campaign, and many more are preparing to embrace it.
This new educational mission is not only at war with basic American values, but with our kids’ happiness and ability to succeed in life. Couched in vague slogans such as “social justice,” the new curriculum divides our children into “oppressor” and “oppressed” groups. To one, it teaches guilt and shame. To the other, grievance and anger. To all students, it spreads unhappiness, radicalism, and failure.
Schools are adopting this illiberal mission at the behest of a narrow group of activists — without the consent of the students, parents, and communities whose interests the schools are supposed to serve. Those who dissent risk being attacked as bigots and shamed into silence.
This must stop. If you are disturbed by these destructive developments, you are not alone. If you want our schools to return to teaching our children what they need to grow and succeed, please join us. We come from diverse races, religions, economic backgrounds, and political orientations — but we all agree that it is time to join together and stop the madness in our schools.
